Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about a pumpkin patch.

Materials and Prep

  • Pencil
  • Blank paper
  • Colorful markers or crayons

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by discussing what a pumpkin patch is and why it is an exciting place to visit. Ask the student to share any experiences they may have had at a pumpkin patch.

  2. Encourage the student to use their imagination and think about what they would see, hear, and feel at a pumpkin patch. Have them draw a picture of their ideal pumpkin patch scene using the colorful markers or crayons.

  3. Ask the student to describe their drawing using descriptive words. Write down their words on a separate piece of paper, helping them with spelling if needed.

  4. Guide the student in organizing the descriptive words into a simple paragraph. Start with a topic sentence like "In my pumpkin patch, I see..." and then add details using the descriptive words they provided.

  5. Have the student practice writing their paragraph on a blank sheet of paper. Encourage them to sound out words and use their best handwriting.

  6. Once the paragraph is complete, ask the student to read it aloud to you. Provide positive feedback and praise their effort.

  7. Allow the student to decorate their paragraph with their drawing of the pumpkin patch. They can use the colorful markers or crayons to make it visually appealing.
