Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and analyze a text related to going hunting, while improving their reading comprehension skills.
Materials and Prep

Before starting the lesson, make sure the student has a basic understanding of reading comprehension strategies, such as making predictions, summarizing, and making connections to prior knowledge.
Activities
- Begin by discussing with the student their interest in hunting. Ask them what they already know about hunting and what they would like to learn.
- Provide the student with the hunting-related text and ask them to read it silently. Encourage them to underline or highlight any unfamiliar words or phrases.
- After reading, have the student discuss the main ideas and key details of the text. Ask them to summarize the text in their own words.
- Engage the student in a guided discussion about the text. Ask open-ended questions to encourage critical thinking and deeper understanding, such as:
- What are the benefits and drawbacks of hunting?
- How does hunting affect the environment?
- What are some safety precautions hunters should take?
- Do you think hunting is a necessary skill in today's society? Why or why not?
- Finally, ask the student to write a short reflection on their thoughts about hunting, based on the reading and the discussion. Encourage them to support their opinions with evidence from the text.
