Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create Halloween-themed artwork using various techniques and materials, and appreciate the significance of art in celebrating Halloween.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank white paper or sketchbook
  • Pencil, eraser, and black marker
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Watercolor paints and brushes
  • Scissors and glue
  • Reference images of Halloween symbols and characters (optional)

Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with different Halloween symbols and characters, such as pumpkins, witches, ghosts, and bats.

Activities

  1. Create a Halloween-themed drawing: Use your pencil to sketch a Halloween scene or character of your choice. Once you are satisfied with your sketch, outline it with a black marker to make it stand out.
  2. Add color to your drawing: Use colored pencils or markers to bring your Halloween artwork to life. Experiment with different color combinations and shading techniques to make it visually appealing.
  3. Try watercolor resist technique: Wet your paper with a brush and clean water. Then, use your watercolor paints to create a spooky background. Let it dry. Once dry, draw and cut out Halloween shapes from a separate piece of paper. Glue these shapes onto your watercolor background. The paint will resist the glued shapes, creating an interesting effect.
  4. Create a Halloween collage: Cut out Halloween-themed images from magazines or print them from the internet. Arrange and glue them onto a blank sheet of paper to create a collage. You can also add your own drawings or decorations to make it unique.
