By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of the biology of cats, including their anatomy, behavior, and adaptations.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • Internet access for research
  • Optional: Books or articles about cats

Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of biology and scientific inquiry.

Activities

  1. Research Cat Anatomy: Use the internet or available resources to research the anatomy of cats. Take notes on their skeletal structure, muscular system, and major organs.
  2. Observe Cat Behavior: If you have a cat at home, spend some time observing its behavior. Take note of its hunting instincts, grooming habits, and social interactions. If you don't have a cat, you can watch videos or documentaries about cat behavior.
  3. Adaptations of Cats: Explore the adaptations that make cats successful predators. Research their sharp claws, keen senses, flexible bodies, and specialized teeth. Write a short paragraph explaining how these adaptations help cats survive in their environment.
  4. Create a Cat Infographic: Use your research findings to create an infographic showcasing the anatomy, behavior, and adaptations of cats. Include visual representations and concise explanations for each aspect.
