Materials Needed:

- Pictures or drawings of Addams Family members (Wednesday, Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Lurch, Thing)
- Black construction paper
- White crayon or chalk
- Simple sentence strips (Examples: "Wednesday is spooky." "A is for Addams." "The family is kooky.")

Lesson Activities:
1. Meet the Addams! (Introduction)
Let's talk about the Addams Family! They are a bit different, aren't they? They like spooky things, but they love each other very much. Look at this picture of Wednesday Addams. What letter do you think her name starts with? W-W-Wednesday! And the family name? A-A-Addams!
2. Awesome 'A' for Addams (Letter Recognition & Sound)
Let's find the letter 'A'! Show the uppercase 'A' and lowercase 'a' flashcard. Can you say 'A'? It makes the /a/ sound, like in 'Addams'. Let's practice writing it! Take your black paper and white crayon. Let's draw a big 'A' and a little 'a'. It looks a bit like a spooky, pointy house! Can you find anything else in the Addams family pictures that might start with 'A'? (Maybe point out 'A'ddams itself).
3. Wonderful 'W' for Wednesday (Letter Recognition & Sound)
Now for Wednesday's special letter: 'W'! Show the 'W' flashcards. Can you say 'W'? It makes the /w/ sound, like in 'W-W-Wednesday' and 'W-W-White' crayon. Let's draw a big 'W' and a little 'w' on our spooky black paper with our white crayon. Look how wiggly it is!
4. Character Sounds Game (Phonemic Awareness)
Let's look at our Addams Family pictures. I'll say a name slowly, listen for the first sound!
- W-W-Wednesday (What sound?)
- A-A-Addams (What sound?)
- G-G-Gomez (What sound?)
- M-M-Morticia (What sound?)
- P-P-Pugsley (What sound?)
- L-L-Lurch (What sound?)
(Optional: Have 'Thing' the hand point to the picture whose name you are sounding out!)
5. Spooky Sight Word Sentences (Reading Practice)
Time to read some kooky sentences! Look at these sentence strips. Let's read them together. Point to each word as we say it.
- "A is for Addams." (Focus on 'A' and 'is')
- "Wednesday is spooky." (Focus on 'is')
- "It is a family." (Focus on 'is' and 'a')
Read them a few times. Can you find the letter 'A'? Can you find the letter 'W' in Wednesday? Can you find the word 'is'?
