Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to practice basic arithmetic skills using Minecraft-themed activities.
Materials and Prep
- Minecraft-themed flashcards or number cards
- Pencil and paper
- Access to a computer or tablet with Minecraft
Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of numbers and counting.
Activities
- Create Minecraft-themed flashcards with numbers 1-10. Shuffle the cards and place them face down on a table.
- Using pencil and paper, draw a Minecraft scene with different objects (e.g., trees, animals, blocks). Assign a number to each object.
- Play a Minecraft math game. Create a simple obstacle course in Minecraft and assign a number to each obstacle (e.g., jumping over 3 blocks, climbing up 5 blocks).
Activity: Pick a card, say the number out loud, and count that many blocks in Minecraft. Repeat for all the cards.
Activity: Write the numbers 1-10 on separate pieces of paper. Have your child count the objects in the scene and match each object with the correct number.
Activity: Guide your child through the obstacle course, asking them to perform the math task associated with each obstacle. For example, if they need to jump over 3 blocks, ask them to subtract 3 from their current block count.

- "Let's match the numbers to the objects in our Minecraft scene."
- "Math can be fun when we play games like Minecraft obstacle courses."
- "Remember to use your math skills to solve each obstacle in the game."
