  • Markers or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue
  • Photos or printed images of loved ones
  • Optional: Decorative items like flowers, candles, or personal mementos
  • Research and gather information about Dia de los Muertos beforehand

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing the significance of Dia de los Muertos and the tradition of creating ofrendas. Explain that an ofrenda is an altar or a special display created to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away.
  2. Have the student gather their materials and decide on the size and shape of their ofrenda. Encourage them to be creative and personalize it with colors and decorations.
  3. Using the markers or colored pencils, have the student decorate the paper or cardboard base of the ofrenda. They can draw patterns, write messages, or create symbols that represent their loved ones.
  4. Next, help the student cut out and arrange the photos or printed images of their loved ones on the ofrenda. They can also add any other decorative items they have chosen.
  5. Once everything is arranged to their liking, assist the student in securing the photos and decorations with tape or glue.
  6. Encourage the student to spend a moment reflecting on the memories of their loved ones and the positive impact they had on their lives.
