Activities
- Start by discussing what a President is and why they are important. Ask the student to share any knowledge they already have about Presidents.
- Introduce a few famous Presidents, such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson. Show pictures of each President and briefly talk about their contributions to the country.
- Ask the student to choose one President they find interesting. Have them draw a picture of the President and write a short sentence or two about why they admire that President.
- If you have access to the internet, search for a short video or animation about Presidents that is suitable for first graders. Watch it together and discuss any new information learned.
- Wrap up the lesson by reviewing what was covered and ask the student to share one interesting fact they learned about a President.
