By the end of this lesson, you will be able to learn about mummies while practicing basic Spanish vocabulary and phrases.
Materials and Prep
- Printed images or drawings of mummies
- Whiteboard or large paper
- Markers or colored pencils
- Spanish-English dictionary (optional)
Activities
-
Begin by showing the student the images or drawings of mummies. Ask them if they know what a mummy is and if they have heard of any famous mummies.
-
Write the word "mummy" on the whiteboard or paper. Explain to the student that in Spanish, a mummy is called "momia" (pronounced: moh-mee-ah).
-
Practice saying the word "momia" together several times, emphasizing the correct pronunciation. Encourage the student to repeat after you.
-
Introduce a few more Spanish words related to mummies, such as "pirĂ¡mide" (pyramid) and "tumba" (tomb). Practice saying these words and their English translations.
-
Engage the student in a drawing activity. Ask them to draw a mummy, a pyramid, and a tomb while labeling each item with its corresponding Spanish word.
-
Once the drawings are complete, have the student present their artwork and explain the Spanish words they have learned.
