Objective

Activities

  1. Watch an episode of The Backyardigans together.

    After watching, ask the toddler to share their favorite parts of the episode and why they enjoyed it.

  2. Explain to the toddler that The Backyardigans is a show that tells stories about different characters and their adventures.

    Discuss the concept of time and explain that history is like a big story that tells us about the past.

  3. Encourage the toddler to draw or color a picture of their favorite scene from The Backyardigans episode they watched.

    While they are drawing, ask them to imagine what it would be like to live in that time and place.

  4. Ask the toddler to share their drawing and explain what they imagined about the time and place.

    Discuss how history helps us understand different cultures, places, and times.
