Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basics of Earth Science and its importance.
Materials and Prep
- World globe or map
- Flashcards with pictures of different Earth features (mountain, river, forest, ocean, etc.)
- Large piece of paper or whiteboard
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Start by showing the world globe or map to the student. Ask them if they know what it represents and if they can find their home or any other familiar places on it.
- Introduce the flashcards with pictures of Earth features. Show each flashcard and ask the student to identify the feature. Discuss briefly what each feature is and where it can be found on Earth.
- On the large piece of paper or whiteboard, draw a simple landscape with different Earth features. Encourage the student to participate and add their own drawings if they want to.
- Label each feature on the drawing and briefly explain its importance. For example, for a mountain, you can say, "Mountains are very tall and can be covered in snow. They are important because they provide homes for animals and help to control the weather."
