Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and comprehend key elements of a story by reading and discussing a Minecraft-themed book.

Materials and Prep

  • Minecraft-themed book (e.g., "The Creeper Diaries")
  • Writing materials (paper, pencil, crayons)

Activities

  1. Introduce the Minecraft-themed book to the student and discuss its cover. Ask the student to make predictions about what the story might be about based on the cover.
  2. Read the book aloud to the student, pausing at key points to ask questions and engage in discussions. Encourage the student to make connections between the story and their own experiences.
  3. After reading, ask the student to draw a picture of their favorite part of the story. Assist them in labeling the picture with key words or phrases.
  4. Have the student retell the story in their own words, using their drawing as a visual aid. Encourage them to include important details and events.
  5. Wrap up the lesson by discussing the main characters, setting, and plot of the story. Ask the student what they enjoyed most about the book and why.

  • "As we read the story, we will stop at certain points to talk about what is happening. This will help us understand the story better and make connections to our own experiences. Can you think of something similar that has happened to you?"
  • "After we finish reading, we will draw a picture of our favorite part of the story. We will use the picture to help us remember what happened. What do you think you might draw?"
  • "Now, let's retell the story in our own words. We will use our drawing as a guide. Remember to include important details and events from the story."
  • "To wrap up, let's talk about the main characters, setting, and plot of the story. Who were the main characters in the book? Where did the story take place? What happened in the story?"
