Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to explore and identify different animals and their habitats using Fischer Price Little People.

Materials and Prep

  • Fischer Price Little People animal figures (e.g., farm animals, zoo animals, ocean animals)
  • Fischer Price Little People playsets (e.g., farm, zoo, ocean)
  • Optional: Large piece of paper or whiteboard

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Introduction: Show the toddler the Fischer Price Little People animal figures and playsets. Explain that today, they will be exploring different animals and their habitats.
  2. Animal Match-Up: Spread out the animal figures on a table or on the floor. Encourage the toddler to match each animal figure with the corresponding playset. For example, the cow figure goes with the farm playset, the lion figure goes with the zoo playset, and the fish figure goes with the ocean playset.
  3. Animal Habitat Exploration: Take one playset at a time and ask the toddler to identify the animals in each habitat. For example, with the farm playset, ask the toddler to point out the cow, pig, and chicken. Encourage them to make animal sounds as they play.
  4. Discussion: If using a large piece of paper or whiteboard, draw three sections labeled "Farm," "Zoo," and "Ocean." Ask the toddler to place the animal figures in the correct section based on their habitats.

  • "Which animals do you think live in the zoo? Let's find the lion and make a roaring sound!"
  • "Wow, look at the ocean playset! Can you spot the fish? Swim, swim!"
  • "Let's sort the animals based on where they live. Where do you think the cow belongs? That's right, on the farm!"
