Materials and Prep
- A computer or gaming console with The Legend of Zelda game
- Paper and pencil
Before starting the lesson, make sure you are familiar with the basics of The Legend of Zelda game.
Activities
- Introduction to Earth Science in Zelda: Start by discussing with the student the various elements of Earth Science that can be found in the game. Talk about landscapes, weather, natural resources, and geological formations.
- Identifying Landforms: Play the game together and encourage the student to identify different types of landforms they encounter, such as mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes. Have them draw and label these landforms on a piece of paper.
- Weather Patterns: Discuss how weather patterns can affect gameplay in Zelda. Ask the student to observe and describe the weather conditions in different areas of the game. Have them create a chart to record their observations.
- Natural Resources: Explore the concept of natural resources in the game. Discuss how characters in Zelda collect resources like wood, ores, and food. Ask the student to identify and list different types of natural resources they come across while playing.
- Geological Formations: Guide the student to identify and discuss different geological formations they encounter in the game, such as caves, cliffs, and canyons. Have them draw and label these formations on their paper.
