Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your reading skills while having fun with Legos.
Materials and Prep
- Legos (various sizes and colors)
- Construction paper
- Markers or crayons
You should already know how to identify colors and shapes.
Activities
- Build and Name: Start by building a simple structure with Legos. Once you're done, give it a name and write it on a piece of construction paper. Practice reading the name out loud.
- Letter Hunt: Take a handful of Legos and scatter them on the floor or table. Ask a parent or sibling to call out a letter, and then find a Lego that starts with that letter. For example, if they say "B," find a Lego brick that has a "B" on it. Practice saying the letter and the word out loud.
- Story Time: Use your Legos to create a scene or characters for a story. Once you have your Lego creation, make up a story about it. Practice reading the story out loud to a family member or stuffed animal.
- Word Building: Choose a simple word and build it using Legos. For example, if you choose the word "cat," build each letter using Legos. Practice saying the word out loud and sound out each letter.
