Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply arithmetic skills to cooking activities, such as measuring ingredients and adjusting recipes.

Materials and Prep

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • A recipe of your choice
  • Paper and pencil

Activities

  1. Choose a recipe that you would like to cook or bake. It could be a favorite dish or something new you want to try.

  2. Read through the recipe and identify the different measurements mentioned, such as cups, teaspoons, or tablespoons.

  3. Practice measuring different ingredients using the measuring cups and spoons. For example, measure out 1 cup of flour or 2 tablespoons of sugar.

  4. Now, let's imagine you want to double the recipe to make more servings. Use your arithmetic skills to calculate the new measurements for each ingredient. Write down the new measurements on a piece of paper.

  5. Discuss the importance of accurate measurements in cooking and how it affects the taste and texture of the final dish.

  6. Finally, prepare the recipe following the original or adjusted measurements. Enjoy your delicious creation!
