Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and describe acorns, and understand their connection to nature and animals.

Materials and Prep

  • A few acorns
  • A small bowl or container
  • A picture book about squirrels or nature
  • A piece of paper and crayons

Activities

  1. Introduction: Show the toddler the acorns and ask if they know what they are. Explain that acorns come from oak trees and are food for animals like squirrels.
  2. Acorn Sorting: Have the toddler sort the acorns by size or color and place them in the small bowl or container.
  3. Acorn Hunt: Hide the acorns around the room or in a designated area. Encourage the toddler to find them and collect them in the bowl.
  4. Story Time: Read a picture book about squirrels or nature that mentions acorns. Discuss the pictures and ask questions about what the toddler sees.
  5. Art Activity: Give the toddler a piece of paper and crayons. Ask them to draw a picture of an acorn or their favorite animal that eats acorns.
