Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to analyze and interpret a sports-related text, make connections between the text and real-life experiences, and effectively communicate your thoughts and opinions about the text.

Materials and Prep

  • A sports-related article or short story
  • Paper and pen/pencil
  • Access to a computer or mobile device with internet

Activities

  1. Read the sports-related text provided.
  2. Take notes while reading, jotting down any interesting or important points.
  3. After reading, reflect on the text and think about how it relates to your own experiences with sports.
  4. Write a short response that discusses your thoughts and opinions about the text, making connections to your own experiences.
  5. Share your response with a partner or family member, and engage in a discussion about the text.
  6. Research a famous athlete or sports figure who inspires you. Write a brief biography highlighting their achievements and impact on their sport.
  7. Create a visual representation of your chosen athlete using any artistic medium you prefer (drawing, painting, collage, etc.).
  8. Present your biography and artwork to your family or a small group, explaining why you find this athlete inspiring.
