Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about cats, using appropriate language and details.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or pen
Activities
- Brainstorming: Begin by discussing with the student what they already know about cats. Encourage them to think about different aspects such as appearance, behavior, and characteristics.
- Descriptive Word Bank: Create a word bank together with the student, listing descriptive words that can be used to describe cats. Examples may include "fluffy," "playful," "curious," "purring," "independent," etc.
- Writing Practice: Ask the student to choose one cat-related topic from the brainstorming session, such as "my favorite cat" or "a day in the life of a cat." Instruct them to write a descriptive paragraph using the words from the word bank. Encourage them to use complete sentences and include specific details.
- Peer Review: Once the student has completed their paragraph, have them read it aloud to a family member or friend. The listener should provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.
- Revision and Final Draft: Based on the feedback received, the student should revise their paragraph, making any necessary changes or additions. Afterward, they can write a final draft of their descriptive paragraph.
