By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and comprehend a Minecraft-themed short story.

Materials and Prep

  • A Minecraft-themed short story (you can create one yourself or find one online)
  • A computer or tablet with internet access
  • A notebook and pencil

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing Minecraft with the student. Ask them what they know about the game and what their favorite aspects of it are. Write down their responses in the notebook.

  2. Introduce the Minecraft-themed short story to the student. Explain that they will be reading and discussing the story together.

  3. Read the story aloud to the student, pausing after each paragraph to check for comprehension and discuss any unfamiliar words or concepts. Encourage the student to ask questions and share their thoughts on the story.

  4. After reading the entire story, ask the student to summarize the main events and characters in their own words. Write down their summary in the notebook.

  5. Have the student re-read the story silently and independently. Encourage them to make notes or underline important details as they read.

  6. Discuss the story further with the student. Ask them to share their favorite part of the story and explain why they liked it. Encourage them to make connections between the story and their own experiences.

  7. Finally, ask the student to write a short paragraph or draw a picture to express their thoughts and feelings about the story. They can use the notebook for this activity.

  • "Can you tell me what happened in the story? Who were the main characters?"
  • "Now, I want you to read the story by yourself. Remember to think about what is happening and how the characters are feeling."
  • "What was your favorite part of the story? Why did you like it? Did anything in the story remind you of something that happened to you?"
  • "Now, I would like you to write a short paragraph or draw a picture to show what you think about the story. Use your imagination and be creative!"
