Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and use basic English grammar concepts while playing with barbies.
Materials and Prep
- Barbie dolls
- Barbie doll accessories
- Blank paper
- Markers or crayons
Before starting the lesson, make sure the student is familiar with basic sentence structure and parts of speech.
Activities
- Create a Barbie Story: Encourage the student to create a story using their Barbie dolls and accessories. After they have set up a scene, ask them to write a short paragraph describing the scene and the actions of the dolls. Remind them to include proper capitalization, punctuation, and noun-verb agreement.
- Parts of Speech Dress-Up: Ask the student to choose a Barbie doll and dress it up as a specific part of speech (e.g., a noun, verb, adjective). Then, have them explain why they chose that outfit to represent the chosen part of speech.
- Grammar Fashion Show: Have the student dress up their Barbie dolls in various outfits. Each outfit should represent a different grammar concept, such as a punctuation mark or a type of sentence (e.g., question, exclamation). The student can then present each outfit and explain the grammar concept it represents.
