By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and evaluate the role of branding in marketing, specifically in relation to language arts and reading.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • Access to internet for research
  • Prior knowledge of basic marketing concepts

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing with the student the importance of branding in marketing. Ask them to think of a few well-known brands and their associated logos or slogans.

Have the student write down their thoughts on how branding can influence consumer behavior and create brand loyalty.

  2. Ask the student to choose a brand they are familiar with and research its history and evolution. They should focus on how the brand has used language arts, such as taglines, jingles, or storytelling, to build its brand identity.

Have the student present their findings, highlighting specific examples of language arts techniques used by the brand.

  3. Engage the student in a discussion about the impact of language arts on branding. Ask them to consider how the choice of words, tone, and imagery can shape a brand's message and appeal to different target audiences.

Encourage the student to think critically and provide examples of brands that effectively use language arts to connect with their consumers.

  4. Conclude the lesson by having the student create their own branding concept for a fictional product or service. They should consider the target audience, desired message, and use language arts techniques to develop a compelling brand identity.

Allow the student to present their branding concept, explaining their choices and how language arts played a role in their creation.
