Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your physical fitness while having fun playing games inspired by Super Mario.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space for physical activities
  • Cones or markers to create boundaries
  • Super Mario-themed music or sound effects (optional)

Activities

  1. Super Mario Warm-up

Start by playing Super Mario-themed music or sound effects. Have the student jog or march in place, pretending to be Mario or Luigi. Encourage them to use big arm movements and high knee lifts. After a few minutes, ask them to freeze in a pose like Mario does when he completes a level.

  2. Jumping Over Koopas

Set up a line of cones or markers as "Koopas" (enemies) on the ground. The student should jump over each Koopa, imitating Mario jumping over obstacles. Encourage them to jump as high as they can and land softly. Time the student to see how quickly they can complete the course.

  3. Collecting Power-ups

Place several small objects (e.g., bean bags, stuffed animals) around the play area. These objects represent power-ups that Mario needs to collect. In a given time limit, the student needs to run around and collect as many power-ups as possible. Each time they collect one, they should do a different exercise, such as jumping jacks, squats, or push-ups.

  4. Bowser's Obstacle Course

Set up an obstacle course using cones or other objects. The student needs to navigate through the course, avoiding the "fireballs" (represented by red objects). Encourage them to crawl under objects, jump over obstacles, and balance on one foot. Time the student to see how quickly they can complete the course without touching any fireballs.
