Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to demonstrate basic basketball skills and understand the importance of physical fitness in relation to basketball.

Materials and Prep

  • Basketball
  • Outdoor or indoor court
  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable athletic clothing and shoes

No prior knowledge or experience is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start with a light jog around the court to get the blood flowing and muscles warmed up.
  2. Dribbling Drills: Practice dribbling the basketball using different techniques such as crossover, between the legs, and behind the back. Start with stationary dribbling and gradually incorporate movement.
  3. Shooting Practice: Set up a shooting station and practice shooting from different positions on the court. Focus on proper shooting form and aim for accuracy.
  4. Passing and Receiving: Pair up with a partner and practice passing and receiving the basketball. Start with basic chest passes and progress to bounce passes and overhead passes.
  5. Mini Game: Divide into teams and play a mini basketball game. Focus on applying the skills learned during the lesson and practicing teamwork.
