By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and match letters using magnetic alphabets.

Materials and Prep

• Magnetic alphabet letters
• Magnetic surface (such as a whiteboard or a magnetic board)
• Clear space for the activity

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

1. Introduction to Magnetic Alphabets

Show the toddler the magnetic alphabet letters and explain that these are special letters that can stick to a magnetic surface. Demonstrate how the letters can be moved around and stuck to the surface.

2. Letter Identification

Place a few magnetic alphabet letters on the magnetic surface. Say the name of a letter out loud and ask the toddler to find and point to the corresponding letter on the surface.

3. Letter Matching

Choose a magnetic alphabet letter and say its name out loud. Ask the toddler to find and place the matching letter next to it on the magnetic surface.

4. Spelling Simple Words

Choose a simple word and spell it out using the magnetic alphabet letters. Ask the toddler to repeat the letters after you and then rearrange the letters to spell the word themselves.
