Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about a piece of artwork, using your imagination and creativity.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or colored pencils
  • An artwork of your choice (can be a printout or a picture on a device)

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a clear understanding of what a descriptive paragraph is and how to use adjectives to describe things.

Activities

  1. Look at the artwork you have chosen and spend a few minutes observing it closely.
  2. Think about how the artwork makes you feel and what it reminds you of.
  3. Using your imagination, write a descriptive paragraph about the artwork. Include details about the colors, shapes, and any objects or people you see in the artwork.
  4. After writing your paragraph, read it aloud and see if you can make any improvements or add more descriptive words.
  5. Once you are satisfied with your paragraph, you can either draw a picture inspired by the artwork or create a new piece of artwork based on your paragraph.

  • "Take a good look at the artwork and think about how it makes you feel."
  • "What colors do you see in the artwork? Are they bright or dull? Do they make you feel happy or sad?"
  • "What shapes do you see? Are they round, square, or something else?"
  • "Do you see any objects or people in the artwork? What are they doing?"
  • "Now, let's use our imagination to write a descriptive paragraph about the artwork. Remember to include as many details as possible!"
  • "After writing your paragraph, read it aloud and see if you can make it even better by adding more descriptive words."
  • "Finally, you can either draw a picture inspired by the artwork or create a new artwork based on your paragraph. Use your imagination!"
