Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and name various objects related to sand in Spanish.
Materials and Prep
- A small sandbox or a tray filled with sand
- A toy shovel or sandcastle molds (optional)
- Flashcards or pictures of sand-related objects
- Printed vocabulary sheets (English and Spanish)
Activities
- Introduction: Begin by showing the toddler the sandbox or tray filled with sand. Encourage them to touch and explore the sand, discussing its texture and color.
- Vocabulary Building: Show the flashcards or pictures of sand-related objects one by one, saying the name of each object in Spanish. Repeat the words multiple times, emphasizing pronunciation.
- Sand Play: Allow the toddler to play in the sand using the toy shovel or sandcastle molds. Encourage them to build sandcastles or create shapes using their hands. As they play, reinforce the Spanish vocabulary by asking questions like, "¿Qué estás haciendo en la arena?" (What are you doing in the sand?) or "¿Puedes encontrar una pala?" (Can you find a shovel?).
- Vocabulary Review: Show the printed vocabulary sheets with the English and Spanish words side by side. Point to each word and ask the toddler to identify the corresponding object in the sandbox. Repeat the process several times to reinforce learning.
- Wrap-up: End the lesson by reviewing the Spanish words for sand-related objects and praising the toddler for their efforts in learning a new language.
