Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to express their thoughts and ideas about sand through drawing and talking.
Materials and Prep
- A piece of paper
- A box of crayons or colored pencils
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Draw and Talk: Give the toddler a piece of paper and some crayons or colored pencils. Ask them to draw a picture of sand. Encourage them to use their imagination and be creative. Once they finish drawing, ask them to describe their picture. What colors did they use? What do they like about sand?
- Sand Sensory Play: If you have access to a sandbox or a small container of sand, let the toddler explore the texture and feel of sand. Encourage them to use their hands to scoop, pour, and mold the sand. Ask them how it feels and if they like playing with sand.
- Sand Writing: Use your finger or a stick to write letters or simple words in the sand. Show the toddler how to trace the letters with their finger. Encourage them to try writing their name or other simple words in the sand. Talk about how writing in the sand is different from writing on paper.
