Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create pressed flower art using materials you have at home.

Materials and Prep

  • A flower or a few flowers of your choice
  • Heavy books
  • Wax paper or parchment paper
  • Scissors
  • A notebook or sketchbook

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have access to flowers and the necessary materials.

Activities

  1. Go outside and carefully pick some flowers that you find interesting or beautiful.
  2. Place the flowers between two pieces of wax paper or parchment paper. Make sure they are evenly spaced and not overlapping.
  3. Put the paper with the flowers inside a heavy book. You can use multiple books to add more weight.
  4. Leave the flowers pressed in the book for about a week. This will help flatten and dry them.
  5. After a week, carefully remove the flowers from the book. They should be flat and dry.
  6. Using scissors, trim any excess paper around the flowers.
  7. Arrange the pressed flowers on a page in your notebook or sketchbook. Get creative with your design!
  8. Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, carefully glue the flowers to the page.
  9. Allow the glue to dry completely.
  10. Admire your beautiful pressed flower art!
