Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about historic railroads in New Mexico.

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing with the student what they already know about historic railroads in New Mexico. Encourage them to share any prior knowledge or experiences they may have had.
  2. If available, read a book or article about historic railroads in New Mexico together. Alternatively, you can search for information online.
  3. Ask the student to choose their favorite historic railroad in New Mexico. Have them draw a picture of it and label any important details.
  4. Guide the student in writing a descriptive paragraph about their chosen historic railroad. Encourage them to use descriptive language, such as adjectives and sensory details, to bring their writing to life.
  5. Review and revise the paragraph together, focusing on grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
  6. Have the student rewrite the final version of their descriptive paragraph neatly on a separate sheet of paper.
