Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and appreciate the culture and history of Native Americans.

Materials and Prep

  • Books or online resources about Native Americans
  • Art supplies (paper, coloring pencils, markers)
  • Optional: Native American artifacts or pictures

Activities

  1. Start by reading a book or watching a video about Native Americans. Discuss the different tribes and their way of life.
  2. Have the student choose a specific tribe to focus on. Encourage them to draw or create a visual representation of what they learned about that tribe.
  3. Discuss the importance of nature and the environment in Native American culture. Take a nature walk and have the student observe and draw any plants or animals they see along the way.
  4. Explore Native American traditions and customs. Have the student create a simple craft, such as a dream catcher or a totem pole, using art supplies.
  5. Conclude the lesson by having a discussion about the contributions of Native Americans to American history and culture.
