Lesson Time! Meet Our Helpers!
Hi there! Today we're going to learn about some very important people who live and work in our community. These people are called Community Helpers! They have special jobs that help everyone.
Who Helps Us?
Let's think about some people who help us. Have you ever seen a firefighter? What do they do?
(Pause for response and discussion)That's right! Firefighters help put out fires and rescue people. They wear special clothes to stay safe.
What about a police officer? What is their job?
(Pause for response and discussion)Yes! Police officers help keep us safe by making sure people follow the rules. They drive special cars!
Who helps us when we are sick or hurt?
(Pause for response and discussion)Doctors and nurses help us feel better! They work at clinics or hospitals.
Who helps us learn new things every day?
(Pause for response and discussion)Teachers! Like me! Teachers help us learn letters, numbers, and all about the world.
Can you think of anyone else who helps in our community? (Mail carriers, garbage collectors, librarians, etc.)
(Discuss any other helpers the child knows.)Activity 1: Helper Sounds and Actions
Let's pretend to be some helpers!
- Firefighter: Make a siren sound ("Wooo-wooo!") and pretend to spray a hose.
- Police Officer: Pretend to direct traffic or blow a whistle ("Tweet!").
- Doctor: Pretend to listen with a stethoscope ("Thump-thump").
- Teacher: Pretend to read a book or write on a board.
Activity 2: Helper Song (Tune: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")
Helpers, helpers, all around,
Helping people in our town.
Doctors, teachers, police too,
Firefighters brave and true.
Thank you, helpers, for your care,
Helping people everywhere.
Activity 3: Draw a Helper!
Now, let's get our paper and crayons. Can you draw your favorite community helper? Or maybe you could draw a picture to say 'thank you' to a helper!
(Allow time for drawing and coloring. Discuss the child's drawing.)Wrap-up: Good Citizens
All these community helpers work hard to make our neighborhood a safe, healthy, and happy place to live. They are good citizens because they help others. We can be good citizens too by being kind, following rules, and saying thank you to our community helpers when we see them!
