Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to introduce yourself and have a basic conversation in Spanish while incorporating Minecraft vocabulary.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil
  • Access to a computer with Minecraft
  • Printed Minecraft vocabulary list (optional)

No prior knowledge of Spanish is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by discussing Minecraft with the student in English. Ask them to name their favorite Minecraft character or item.

Then, introduce the Spanish word for that character or item and have the student repeat it after you. Write down the Spanish word and its English translation on a piece of paper.

For example, if the student's favorite Minecraft character is Steve, you can introduce the word "personaje" (character) in Spanish.

  2. Next, create a simple dialogue using the Minecraft vocabulary you have introduced. Write down the dialogue on a piece of paper, leaving blanks for the Spanish words.

    For example:

English: "Hi, my name is ___."

    Spanish: "Hola, me llamo ___."

English: "What is your favorite Minecraft ___?"

Spanish: "¿Cuál es tu ___ favorito de Minecraft?"

Fill in the blanks with the previously learned Spanish words. Practice the dialogue together.

  3. Now, it's time to role-play the dialogue. Take turns being each character and have a conversation using the dialogue you created. Encourage the student to use the Spanish words they have learned.

    For example:

    Student: "Hola, me llamo Steve."

Teacher: "¡Hola, Steve! ¿Cuál es tu personaje favorito de Minecraft?"

Student: "Mi personaje favorito de Minecraft es Alex."

Teacher: "¡Genial! A mí también me gusta Alex."

Continue the conversation, incorporating more Minecraft vocabulary as desired.
