Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and describe different geometric shapes commonly found in makeup products.
Materials and Prep
- Makeup products (eyeshadow palette, lipstick, blush, etc.)
- Pen and paper
- Optional: a mirror
Activities
-
Explore different makeup products and identify the geometric shapes present in each. For example, you may find circles in the shape of blush pans or rectangular shapes in eyeshadow palettes.
Write down the names of the products and the corresponding shapes you find.
-
Create a "Geometric Makeup Chart" on your paper. Divide it into columns for different shapes such as circles, rectangles, triangles, etc.
Fill in the chart with the names of the makeup products you found in the previous activity and the corresponding shapes.
-
Take a look at yourself in the mirror (if available) or use the makeup products on your face to create different shapes.
Describe the shapes you create using the makeup products, such as drawing a triangle with your eyeliner or applying blush in a circular motion.
Second Grade Talking Points
- "Shapes are all around us, even in makeup! Can you think of any makeup products that might have different shapes?"
- "Let's explore some makeup products and see if we can find any shapes. What shape do you see in this eyeshadow palette?"
- "Now that we have found some shapes in makeup, let's create a chart to keep track of them. What shape did we find in this lipstick?"
- "Using makeup, we can also create shapes on our face. Can you think of any makeup products we can use to make a triangle shape?"
- "Shapes can be found in many things, not just in makeup. Can you find any shapes in your surroundings at home?"
