¡Hola! Welcome to our Art & Spanish Class! (5 mins)

Teacher: ¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás? (Hello! How are you?)

Teacher: Today, we're going on an exciting art adventure! We will learn the names of colors in Spanish. ¡Vamos a aprender los colores! (We are going to learn the colors!)

Activity: Introduce color flashcards or point to colored items. Say the Spanish word clearly and have the student repeat.

  • Rojo (roh-ho) - Red
  • Azul (ah-sool) - Blue
  • Amarillo (ah-mah-ree-yo) - Yellow
  • Verde (vehr-deh) - Green
  • Anaranjado (ah-nah-rahn-hah-doh) or Naranja (nah-rahn-ha) - Orange
  • Morado (moh-rah-doh) - Purple
  • Blanco (blahn-koh) - White
  • Negro (neh-groh) - Black

Sing: (Optional) Sing a simple color song to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star": "Rojo, azul, amarillo, verde, anaranjado, y morado. ¡Qué bonitos los colores que yo veo! Rojo, azul, amarillo, verde, anaranjado, y morado."

Art Exploration: Color Hunt (Búsqueda de Colores) (10 mins)

Teacher: ¡Busquemos colores! (Let's look for colors!) Let's find things around us that match our Spanish colors.

Activity: Call out a color in Spanish and have the student find an object of that color.

Teacher: ¡Busca algo ROJO! (Find something RED!) ... ¡Muy bien! Es rojo.

Teacher: ¡Busca algo AZUL! (Find something BLUE!) ... ¡Excelente! Es azul.

Continue this for several colors, encouraging the student to say the color name in Spanish.

Creative Time: ¡A Pintar! (Let's Paint/Draw!) (15-20 mins)

Teacher: ¡Ahora, vamos a crear arte! (Now, let's create art!) You can draw or paint anything you like. When you choose a color, try to say its name in Spanish.

Activity: Provide paper and art supplies. As the student works, ask questions in Spanish.

Teacher: ¿Qué color necesitas? (What color do you need?)

Student (prompted): Necesito [color name in Spanish]. (I need [color name].)

Teacher: ¿Te gusta el color [color name]? (Do you like the color [color name]?)

Student (prompted): Sí, me gusta el [color name] / No, no me gusta el [color name].

Encourage using colors learned. Help with pronunciation as needed. Focus on participation and effort over perfection.

Show and Tell: Mi Obra de Arte (My Artwork) (5 mins)

Teacher: ¡Tu arte es fantástico! (Your art is fantastic!) Can you tell me about the colors you used? ¿Qué colores usaste?

Activity: Have the student present their artwork, pointing to the colors and saying their names in Spanish.

Student (prompted): Usé rojo (I used red). Aquí está azul (Here is blue). Me gusta amarillo (I like yellow).

Praise their work and their use of Spanish.

Review & Adiós (5 mins)

Teacher: ¡ repasemos los colores! (Let's review the colors!)

Activity: Quickly review the color flashcards or point to colors on their artwork, asking "¿Qué color es?" (What color is it?). Play a quick round of "Simón Dice" (Simon Says) using colors: "Simón dice... ¡toca algo VERDE!" (Simon says... touch something GREEN!).

Teacher: ¡Excelente trabajo hoy! You learned so many colors in Spanish! ¡Adiós! (Goodbye!)
