Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a short story about dancing, and answer comprehension questions.

Materials and Prep

  • A short story about dancing (can be found online or created by the teacher)
  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank paper for drawing

Activities

  1. Read the short story about dancing out loud to yourself or with a parent.

  2. Think about the characters in the story and their actions. Draw a picture of your favorite character or scene from the story.

  3. Answer the following comprehension questions:

    • What is the main character's name?
    • Where does the story take place?
    • What is the problem the main character faces?
    • How does the main character solve the problem?
    • What is the lesson or message of the story?
  4. Share your drawing and answers with a parent or older sibling. Discuss the story and your thoughts about it.

  • "Today we are going to read a story about dancing. We will learn about the characters, the setting, and the problem the main character faces."
  • "After we read the story, we will draw a picture of our favorite part or character."
