Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and spell basic train-related words.

Materials and Prep

  • Train picture cards (with words written on them)
  • Whiteboard or paper
  • Markers or crayons

Activities

  1. Show the toddler a train picture card and say the word out loud. Ask the toddler to repeat the word after you.

Example: Show the picture card of a train and say, "Train." Then ask the toddler to say, "Train."

  2. Write the word "train" on the whiteboard or paper. Trace the letters with your finger and have the toddler trace them as well.

Example: Write the word "train" and say, "This is how we spell 'train.' Let's trace the letters together."

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for additional train-related words, such as "track," "engine," and "caboose."

Example: Show the picture card of a track, say the word, and have the toddler repeat it. Then write the word "track" and trace the letters together.

  4. Encourage the toddler to practice spelling the words independently by using markers or crayons to write the words on their own piece of paper or whiteboard.

Example: Say, "Now it's your turn to spell! Use the markers or crayons to write the word 'train' on your paper."
