Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and describe different characters from the Octonauts series, as well as practice basic reading skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Octonauts books or printouts
  • Coloring materials
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Before starting the lesson, make sure you are familiar with the Octonauts characters and their names.

Activities

  1. Introduce the Octonauts characters by showing pictures or illustrations of each character.

    Ask the student to name the characters they recognize and help them identify the ones they don't know.

  2. Read an Octonauts book together or show a video clip from the series.

    Pause at different points and ask the student questions about what is happening in the story.

  3. Print out coloring pages of Octonauts characters and let the student color them.

    Encourage them to use different colors and be creative.

  4. Cut out the colored Octonauts characters and help the student glue them onto a piece of paper.

    Ask the student to name each character as they glue them down.

  • "Can you tell me who this character is? That's right, it's Captain Barnacles! He is the brave leader of the Octonauts."
  • "Now, let's read an Octonauts book together. Can you tell me what is happening in the story?"

  • "Can you name each character as you glue them down? That's right, it's Peso the Penguin!"
