Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and recognize different dog breeds and their characteristics, and develop an interest in reading about dogs.

Materials and Prep

  • Pictures or illustrations of various dog breeds
  • Paper and crayons/markers
  • Books or stories about dogs

Activities

  • Activity 1: Dog Breed Identification
  • Show the toddler pictures or illustrations of different dog breeds. Encourage them to point and name the breeds they recognize. Ask questions like "Which dog has long ears?" or "Which dog has a curly tail?" to engage their observation skills.

  • Activity 2: Dog Drawing
  • Provide the toddler with paper and crayons/markers. Ask them to draw their favorite dog breed or create their own imaginary dog. Encourage them to use their imagination and be creative.

  • Activity 3: Dog Storytime
  • Read aloud a book or story about dogs to the toddler. Pause at certain points to ask questions or discuss the events in the story. Encourage them to listen attentively and express their thoughts or feelings about the story.
