Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the concept of history and its importance in understanding the past.

Materials and Prep

  • Pokémon cards or pictures
  • Blank paper and coloring materials
  • Access to a computer or tablet with internet

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by showing the student some Pokémon cards or pictures. Ask them if they know what Pokémon are and if they have any favorites.
  2. Explain that just like Pokémon have their own history, humans also have a history. History is the study of the past and helps us understand how things have changed over time.
  3. Ask the student to imagine they are a Pokémon historian. Their task is to create a Pokémon history book. Provide them with blank paper and coloring materials to design their book cover.
  4. Using a computer or tablet, search for pictures of different historical periods or events. Show them to the student and ask them to draw a picture of each event in their Pokémon history book.
  5. Once the drawings are complete, help the student write a short description of each event. Encourage them to use their imagination and incorporate Pokémon elements into the descriptions.
  6. Finally, have the student present their Pokémon history book to you or any family members. They can explain the events they included and why they think they are important.
