Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of history and its relevance to society, while also exploring the history of Barbie dolls.

Materials and Prep

  • Barbie dolls (if available)
  • Paper and crayons
  • Internet access (optional)

Activities

  1. Introduction to History: Begin by discussing with the student what history means. Explain that history is the study of the past and how it has shaped the present. Show examples of old photographs or objects to help them understand the concept.
  2. History of Barbie: Introduce the student to Barbie dolls and explain that Barbie has a long history. If you have Barbie dolls available, show them to the student. Discuss how Barbie has changed over time and how she reflects the fashion and trends of different eras.
  3. Create a Barbie Timeline: Provide the student with paper and crayons. Ask them to draw a timeline and label different time periods (e.g., 1950s, 1960s, etc.). Encourage the student to draw pictures of Barbie dolls representing each era on the timeline.
  4. Research Barbie's History: If you have internet access, guide the student in researching more about the history of Barbie. Visit the official Barbie website or other reliable sources to learn about the different Barbie dolls that have been released over the years. Discuss any interesting facts or changes that have occurred.
  5. Reflect and Discuss: Engage in a conversation with the student about what they have learned. Ask questions like, "How do you think Barbie dolls have changed over time?" or "Why is it important to study history?". Encourage the student to share their thoughts and observations.
