- Scissors
- Glue
- Magazines or printed pictures of insects
- Pencil
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have gathered all the materials and have them ready for use.
Activities
-
Introduction to Insects
Start by showing the student pictures of different insects from the magazines or printed pictures. Discuss their different shapes, colors, and patterns. Talk about how insects have different body parts such as wings, antennae, and legs.
-
Create an Insect Collage
Give the student a piece of construction paper and ask them to draw their favorite insect using markers or crayons. If they need help, they can trace a printed picture or use their imagination. Then, using scissors, they can cut out the insect and glue it onto the paper to create a collage. Encourage them to add details like wings and legs using additional paper if they wish.
-
Decorate the Insect Collage
After the collage is complete, ask the student to use markers or crayons to add more details and colors to their insect. They can also draw a background or other insects around it to make the collage more interesting.
-
Show and Tell
Once the artwork is finished, have the student present their insect collage to you or any family members. Ask them to describe their insect, what they like about it, and why they chose to create it.
