Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a snake-themed artwork using basic art materials.

Materials and Prep

  • Construction paper
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pencil
  • Snake reference images (optional)

Prior to the lesson, familiarize yourself with different types of snakes and their characteristics.

Activities

  1. Introduction to Snakes: Begin the lesson by discussing snakes with the student. Show them pictures or books about different snakes and talk about their unique features.
  2. Snake Tracing: Help the student trace their hand on a piece of construction paper using a pencil. This will serve as the snake's body.
  3. Decorate the Snake: Encourage the student to use markers or crayons to add patterns and colors to their snake's body. They can refer to the snake reference images for inspiration.
  4. Snake Head and Tail: Assist the student in cutting out a snake head and tail from the construction paper. They can use a different color or patterned paper for this.
  5. Assemble the Snake: Help the student glue the snake head and tail to the traced hand body, creating a complete snake.
  6. Finishing Touches: Encourage the student to add any additional details to their snake, such as eyes, scales, or a forked tongue.
