Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to demonstrate improved reading comprehension and critical thinking skills through engaging activities related to Language Arts: Reading.
Materials and Prep
- Waldorf-inspired reading book
- Pen or pencil
- Blank paper
Activities
-
Start by reading a chapter or a short story from the Waldorf-inspired reading book together. Encourage the student to actively listen and ask questions about the content.
-
After reading, ask the student to choose their favorite character from the story. Have them draw a picture of the character on the blank paper and write a short description using descriptive words.
-
Next, ask the student to think about the main problem or conflict in the story. Have them write a paragraph explaining how they would solve the problem if they were the main character.
-
For the final activity, encourage the student to create a new ending for the story. They can write a short paragraph or even act it out with the help of family members.
Third Grade Talking Points
- "In this story, we will be introduced to different characters and learn about their adventures."
- "Let's pay attention to how the author describes the characters and their actions."
- "What do you think the main problem or conflict in the story is? Why?"
- "How would you solve the problem if you were in the main character's shoes?"
- "Now, let's use our imagination and create a new ending for the story. What would happen differently?"
