Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name the seven continents.

Materials and Prep

  • World map or globe
  • Blank paper
  • Coloring materials

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of continents by showing the student a world map or globe.

    Explain that continents are large land masses that make up our planet Earth.

  2. Ask the student to name any continents they already know. Write their responses on the blank paper.

    Discuss each continent mentioned and provide some interesting facts about them.

  3. Show the student the seven continents on the map or globe.

    Ask the student to color each continent on their own map or globe.

  4. Review the names of the continents with the student.

    Ask the student to point out and name each continent on their colored map or globe.
