Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to demonstrate basic writing skills, including forming letters, writing their name, and creating simple sentences.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencils or crayons
- Chart paper or whiteboard
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduction (5 minutes): Begin by discussing the importance of writing and how it helps us communicate. Show examples of different types of writing, such as books, letters, and signs.
- Letter Formation (10 minutes): Teach the student how to form letters by modeling proper letter formation on the chart paper or whiteboard. Start with simple letters like "L" and "T" and gradually introduce more complex letters.
- Writing Name (10 minutes): Guide the student in writing their own name. Start by writing their name on the chart paper or whiteboard and have them trace over it. Then, provide them with their own paper and encourage them to write their name independently.
- Creating Simple Sentences (15 minutes): Help the student create simple sentences by providing them with a sentence starter, such as "I like..." or "I see...". Have them complete the sentence by drawing a picture and writing a corresponding sentence. For example, "I like cats" with a drawing of a cat.
- Sharing and Celebrating (5 minutes): Allow the student to share their writing with you or a family member. Praise their efforts and celebrate their progress.
