Materials and Prep

  • Pencil
  • Blank paper

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Have the student brainstorm a list of words and phrases that describe their new puppy. Encourage them to think about the puppy's appearance, personality, and behavior.
  2. Organizing Ideas: Help the student organize their thoughts by creating a mind map or an outline. They should group similar ideas together and decide on the main points they want to include in their paragraph.
  3. Writing the Paragraph: Using the ideas from their mind map or outline, have the student write a descriptive paragraph about their new puppy. Remind them to include specific details and use vivid language to paint a clear picture in the reader's mind.
  4. Editing and Revising: After completing the first draft, guide the student through the process of editing and revising their paragraph. Encourage them to check for grammar and spelling errors, as well as to make improvements in sentence structure and word choice.
  5. Finalizing the Paragraph: Once the student is satisfied with their revisions, have them write a final copy of their descriptive paragraph. They can use their best handwriting and add any illustrations or decorations to make it visually appealing.
