Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to apply permaculture principles to create a practical arts project.
Materials and Prep
- Sketchbook or paper
- Pencils, colored pencils, or markers
- Access to permaculture resources (books, websites, etc.)
Prior knowledge of basic permaculture principles and practices is helpful but not required.
Activities
- Introduction to Permaculture (10 minutes)
Discuss the basic principles of permaculture with the student. Explain how permaculture integrates agriculture, design, and ecology to create sustainable systems. Show examples of permaculture projects to inspire creativity. - Brainstorming and Planning (15 minutes)
Have the student brainstorm ideas for a practical arts project that incorporates permaculture concepts. Encourage them to think about how they can use materials and techniques to represent permaculture principles visually. - Creating the Artwork (30 minutes)
Provide the student with the necessary materials and let them start creating their artwork. Offer guidance and suggestions as needed, but allow them to explore their own creativity and style. - Presentation and Reflection (10 minutes)
Have the student present their artwork to you or a family member. Ask them to explain how their artwork represents permaculture principles. Reflect on the process and the student's understanding of permaculture.
