Objective

The objective of this lesson is for the preschool student to develop language arts and reading skills while exploring the topic of robots. By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe different types of robots, understand basic robot functions, and engage in reading activities related to robots.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons/markers
  • Pencil
  • Robot-themed books (fiction and non-fiction)

Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of letters and sounds.

Activities

  1. Create Your Own Robot: Encourage the student to use their imagination and draw their own robot. Ask them to name their robot and describe its features.
  2. Robot Descriptions: Read a robot-themed book together and ask the student to describe the appearance and functions of the robots in the story.
  3. Robot Alphabet: Introduce the alphabet by associating each letter with a word related to robots. For example, A is for Android, B is for Bot, C is for Circuit, etc. Have the student practice writing the letters and drawing a small picture of the associated word.
  4. Robot Storytelling: Ask the student to create a short story about a robot. Encourage them to use their imagination and include descriptive details about the robot's appearance, abilities, and adventures.
  5. Robot Rhymes: Sing or recite rhymes related to robots. For example, "I'm a little robot, short and strong. Here are my buttons, they beep and bong!"
