Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe various aspects of pumpkins, including their appearance, parts, and uses.
Materials and Prep
- A pumpkin
- A knife (to be used by the teacher or a parent)
- A spoon
- Markers or crayons
- Construction paper
- Glue
Prior to the lesson, the teacher should cut off the top of the pumpkin and scoop out the seeds and pulp.
Activities
- Explore the Pumpkin: Encourage the student to observe and touch the pumpkin, describing its color, shape, and texture. Discuss how pumpkins grow and where they can be found.
- Carve a Pumpkin Face: With the help of the teacher or a parent, carve a simple face on the pumpkin. Talk about the different parts of the pumpkin, such as the stem, skin, and flesh.
- Create a Pumpkin Collage: Provide the student with construction paper, markers or crayons, and glue. Instruct them to draw and cut out different parts of a pumpkin, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth, and then glue them onto the paper to create a pumpkin collage.
